Making Predictions in Eternally Innating Universe
نویسنده
چکیده
Eternally innating universes can contain large thermalized regions with different values of the constants of Nature and with diierent density uctuation spectra. To nd the probability for a `typical' observer to detect a certain set of constants, or a certain uctuation spectrum, one needs to compare the volumes occupied by diierent types of regions. If the volumes are taken on an equal-time hypersurface, the results of such a comparison are extremely sensitive to the choice of the time variable t. Here, I propose a method of comparing the volumes which is rather insensitive to the choice of t. The method is then applied to evaluate the relative probability of diierent minima of the innaton potential and the probability distribution for the density uctuation spectra.

متن کاملInflationary Models and Connections to Particle Physics †
The basic workings of inflationary models are summarized, along with the arguments that strongly suggest that our universe is the product of inflation. The mechanisms that lead to eternal inflation in both new and chaotic models are described. Although the infinity of pocket universes produced by eternal inflation are unobservable, it is argued that eternal inflation has real consequences in te...
متن کاملInflation and Creation of Matter in the Universe
Inflationary theory was proposed 20 years ago. In the beginning it looked like an interesting piece of science fiction. During the last 20 years it changed quite a lot and became a broadly accepted cosmological paradigm. New versions of this theory do not require any assumptions about initial thermal equilibrium in the early universe. Inflation is no longer based on the mechanism of supercoolin...
متن کاملMaking predictions in the multiverse
I describe reasons to think we are living in an eternally inflating multiverse where the observable “constants” of nature vary from place to place. The major obstacle to making predictions in this context is that we must regulate the infinities of eternal inflation. I review a number of proposed regulators, or measures. Recent work has ruled out a number of measures by showing that they conflic...

“Constants of Nature” and cosmological parameters may in fact be variables related to some slowly-varying fields. In models of eternal inflation, such fields will take different values in different parts of the universe. Here I show how one can assign probabilities to values of the “constants” measured by a typical observer. This method does not suffer from ambiguities previously discussed in t...
